What Dad’s REALLY Want for Father’s Day
Suggestions for Father’s Day from the Farrel Fathers
We asked our three sons for their input of what they thought their peers (and themselves) were looking for this Father’s Day.
Brock: The Dads I know would love a day where they are noit needed. Most days dads sacrifice and serve their families (gladly I may add) but on Father’s Day if they can have a day where don’t have to fix something or discipline bad behavior or listen to drama that s not their own, that would be a blessings.
Zach: TIME: Independent time doing something that the kids find enjoyment in: building, play a sport, etc.
Caleb: The dads of littles who are engeged with their kids are looking for a short break to recharge their battereies. They are wanting a couple hours
to do something that will recharge them to continue to be engaged and not to feel guilted about taking time to do something for themselves— all this so they can continue to serve their family.
Bill: I just want time to talk with boys, daughter in laws, the grands . . . in person or facetime . . . every moment is precious!
Notice these all have a common thread: TIME.
In many Psalms, over 70 times, we see a repeat of “Selah”, a pause to ponder. Give your Father, husband, son— the Dads in your world some measure of TIME for Father’s Day, on that day or in the month ahead. Simply ask Dad, “What kind of time would help you feel caught up, refreshed, rejuvinaized?” Then give it.
In Voice of JudahIsrael one is reminded:
“Throughout the Psalms, a small Hebrew word appears again and again—Selah (pronounced say-lah). It’s easy to overlook, but when you notice it, something shifts. It’s as if the psalmist, or even God Himself, is reaching into the moment and saying: “Stop”…. Selah reminds us that reflection is not a waste of time—it’s how we make space for God to speak.”
Give God space to speak to the men in your world.
