M.O.M. Encouraging Wisdom from Our KIDS!

This morning I woke up to a beautiful bouquet from my husband, Bill—three red roses for our sons, three yellow-orange roses for our daughters-in-law, and eight tulips for our grandchildren. Beside it was a handmade card with Proverbs 31:28–30

Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:

“Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”

As I reflected on motherhood, I realized some of the greatest lessons I learned came from our own boys. So today I want to encourage moms with a simple acrostic: M.O.M.

Maximize the Moments

Psalm 90:12 says, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”

When Caleb was little, he excitedly called me outside to see a dragonfly. I kept saying, “Just a minute,” until he grabbed my cheeks and said, “No minutes, Mommy. Wisten to me, wisten peeease” God used that moment to remind me that people matter more than productivity. Childhood passes quickly. Treasure the moments.

Optimize Your Soul Care

Matthew 11:28 reminds us: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

One Easter Sunday, after dressing in a perfectly white outfit, my muddy toddler covered me in dirt with his little tennis shoes.  I let out a wail, “ZAch, why did you do this! I’m a person too!”

He innocently replied, “You’re not a person. You’re a mommy.” Instead of letting frustration ruin the day, we simply changed clothes and went to church. that day God reminded me my role as Mother was elevated, yes, some days are tough, but Momy ranks higher in the hearts of our kids that all other people. That is why we should care for ourselves with the same TLC as God does. Moms need soul care, rest, prayer, and grace too.

Mature in Your Faith

2 Peter 3:18 says, “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

At a family camp, our first born Brock was repeating all the words from the Jesus film. Bill, thinking Brock might be ready to begin a relationship with Jesus asked, “Brock, do you want to ask Jesus into your heart?”

Brock confidentlky replied, “When Jesus gets out of the Bible, then I’ll ask Him into my heart.” That statement shaped our parenting. Brock handed us our marching orders: Get Jesus out of the Bible and into real life so out children can experience what a relationship with the Creator looks like. Our children need to see Jesus alive in everyday life—in our prayers, worship, kindness, forgiveness, and faith.

So today, dear moms:
Maximize the moments.
Optimize your soul care.
Mature in your faith.

You are a beautiful bouquet in God’s hands—carefully arranged, deeply loved, and uniquely designed for the people He entrusted to you.
