31 Verses to Pray Over Israel

The Bible is clear that those who bless Israel, God blesses.  The promise was made in His covenant to Abraham:

Genesis 12:3 (NIV)
“I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.

The Bible, in many places, clearly shares that Israel is His chosen people:

Deuteronomy 7:6 (NIV)
“For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession.”

Isaiah 41:8-9 (NIV)
“But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, you descendants of Abraham my friend, I took you from the ends of the earth, from its farthest corners I called you. I said, ‘You are my servant’; I have chosen you and have not rejected you.”

It is also clear that The Lord grafted us, as Christians,  into His family:

Ephesians 2:19 (NIV)
“Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household.”

Lastly, let us share a little on what “Zion” means:

Zion as a Physical Location

  • 2 Samuel 5:7 (NIV): “Nevertheless, David captured the fortress of Zion—which is the City of David.”

Zion as the Dwelling Place of God

  • Psalm 132:13-14 (NIV): “For the Lord has chosen Zion, he has desired it for his dwelling, saying, ‘This is my resting place for ever and ever; here I will sit enthroned, for I have desired it.'”

Zion as a Symbol of God’s People (Israel)

  • Isaiah 51:16 (NIV): “I have put my words in your mouth and covered you with the shadow of my hand—I who set the heavens in place, who laid the foundations of the earth, and who say to Zion, ‘You are my people.'”

Zion as the Center of Redemption and Salvation

  • Isaiah 2:3 (NIV): “Many peoples will come and say, ‘Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the temple of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.’ The law will go out from Zion, the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.”

Zion as a Symbol of the Heavenly Jerusalem

  • Hebrews 12:22 (NIV): “But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly.”

Zion as the Seat of the Messiah’s Reign

  • Psalm 2:6 (NIV): “I have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain.”
  • Revelation 14:1 (NIV): “Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb, standing on Mount Zion, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads.”

With this as a Biblical background, it is an act of obedience to pray for Israel, for peace in Jerusalem, and for Zion , a symbolic and geographical place of worship of God.

When the attack of Oct 7 happened, I (Pam) did a Facebook Live each day praying one of the Psalms (and longer ones I split so we prayed for release of hostages and peace for Israel for over 200 days) With the one year anniversary of this horrific day of Hamas murdering innocents, and with recent attack of Iran firing over 200 missiles seeking to annihilate the Jewish nation,  and rising antisemitism,  we must keep up praying for the Jewish peoples in Israel and worldwide. Because we have led a trip to the Holy Land, our hearts pray as our mind recall the beauty of this land and its people.  We had a unique experience of being in Golan Hieghts the week the US embassy was moved to Jerusalem. We were awakened to missile fire over our heads as Israel’s enemies fired off their displeasure. We also felt God’s supernatural power, protection and peace as He used the Iron Dome and we believe, His own hand, to protect his beloved Israel (and us). Here are 31 verses you can pray for the next month.
