No Another Dating Book

Here’s a new book for singles, Not Just Another Dating Book, by my
mentee, Renee Johnson Fisher. Here’s my endorsement :

I know Renee, and she cares about people! If you want to
protect your heart from a whole lot of hurt, this book is a must read. Better yet, if you want God to do an amazing work in YOU, so ALL your relationships function at their ultimate best- you will love the advice Renee leads you to discover. If you want to laugh out loud and feel better about one of your dates that might have gone wrong, Renee’s humor will help you smile again.  The best
part of This is Not a Dating Book is you will become the kind of person people love to be around.
-Pam Farrel, relationship expert, author of over 35 books including best
selling, Men Are Like Waffles, Women Are Like Spaghetti, Single Men Are Like
Waffles, Single Women Are Like Spaghetti,
and 10 Best Decisions a Single
Can Make.

And here is a short interview with Renee:

  1. Renee, you interviewed many for your dating book, what was the most interesting thing you learned from your peers?

I loved how many people were willing to spill their most embarrassing date stories. I even got permission from my publisher to include THEM ALL in the book. I think sometimes the dating scene becomes frustrating, challenging, and just plain aggravating at times and it’s
important to laugh at ourselves. Isn’t that right Pam? Didn’t you even write a
book about that??

  1. So youwere tired of “dating” books, what sets this one apart?

I spell it out in the first sentence of my book: “I don’t claim to be an expert in dating.” So many Christian dating books either assumed you were “dating” or a “virgin.” Although I had waited for my husband, I couldn’t get a date to save my life. In “Not Another Dating Book”
I explore deeper issues not just the “to date or not to date challenge” such as
purity, online dating, characteristics of a relationship, and so much more!

  1. While you were writing the dating book you were in a dating relationship—tell me how dating Marc impacted this writing?

It was the most peculiar situation. Everything my editor asked me to change in the second draft I was living with Marc—even that day. Sometimes, I’d scream out loud and even run up and down the stairs in my old apartment, but mostly I reveled in the fact that God was
showing off. I had to rewrite the entire end of my book and take out the
section where I previously wanted to say “there are no such thing as happy
endings.” Seriously. God rocked my socks off—and I don’t even wear socks.

  1. You have a fun love story—tell us why you are glad you decided to date according to
God’s advice—was it worth the wait?

As I said in the forward, my parents forbid me to date until I was 35. But all that changed when I was 27 and still single. They started to be more interested in my love life than I was. Even though I’d tried online dating a few times, I always felt guilty. My mom would
tell me to wait on God and let Him bring my husband to me. I disbelieved that
would ever happen. Exactly one year ago, Marc walked into my living room. I was
co-leading the 20-something’s growth group through North Coast Church in Vista,
CA and we had one spot left. Marc filled it. The more I got to know him, the
more I was challenged and wanted to get to know him. I didn’t know this, but he
was drawn to me too. He had checked out my blog and waited until I moved to San
Diego to ask me out. I only stayed down there two months and quickly moved back
in with my parents so we could seriously date. The day Marc proposed was
exactly 12 years, 10 months, and 24 days to the day God promised me I’d have a
mate. I’m so glad I waited and I’m so honored to be married.

Renee’s book is a nice compliment to our books for Singles: 10 Best Decisions a Single Can Make and Single Men Are Like Waffles, Single Women
Are Like Spaghetti
.

If you are single, or know a single any of these are nice
gifts of encouragement (and good for small groups or book clubs too).
